 Prayer to Receive Salvation

We are so happy that you are interested in the plan of salvation which involves inviting Jesus Christ to come and live within your heart.

The first thing you need to know is that God loves you so much that He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die just for you. Through salvation, God wants you to experience His peace, the abundant life on earth, and eternal life in heaven. Becoming a follower of Christ is not difficult. Salvation is really three simple steps:

  • Acknowledge that you need God's mercy and ask His forgiveness for every sin that you have ever committed. Believe that God will wash them all away with the blood that Christ shed on the Cross. Here are some scriptures to help you understand: Romans 3:23; Luke 18:13; and Romans 10:9.

  • Repent and confess your sins to God. This is something that you should continue to do even after you have invited Christ into your heart. Here are some scriptures to help you understand: Luke 13:3; Acts 3:19; 1 John 1:9; and Romans 10:10.

  • Ask Jesus to come into your heart as the Lord of your life and acknowledge Him as your eternal Savior.

Are you ready? Just repeat this simple prayer and believe:

"Dear God, I know that I am a sinner. I know that I am not where I want to be in my life, and I want Your forgiveness. I believe that Jesus died on the cross for my sins. Please wash me clean from all of my sin, shame, and guilt. Come into my life, Jesus, to be my Lord and Savior. I ask this in Your name, Amen."

That is it! Now that you have prayed this prayer with faith, believing that God is faithful and true to His Word, you are now a brand new follower of Jesus Christ. Some people may experience an emotional response such as tears, a feeling of "lightness", or a feeling of peace after they have prayed the prayer of salvation. Some people may feel nothing at all--and that is okay. The most important thing right now is your faith - not your feelings.

As you begin to grow in your walk and relationship with the Lord, you may experience all kinds of emotions. The fact is, the Word of God says that "If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." (Romans 10:9) Accepting Christ as your Savior is the most important spiritual transformation of your life! It begins your wonderful, joyful, and yes, sometimes challenging journey with the Lord.

Now talk to the Lord as your Friend, and tell Him whatever you want or need to say. He promises to be with you always, to never leave you or forsake you (Matthew 28:20; Hebrews 13:5). What a comforting promise! Be sure to visit the Blessings page before you leave the website to learn about other promises that are now yours as a born-again believer (John 1:12-13; John 3:3, 6-8).

Finally, go tell someone what you have done. We encourage you to find a local church where you can be baptized in water and grow in the knowledge of God through His Word, the Bible. Take time to read the Bible. You can start with the Gospel of John in the New Testament. Also check out the Resources available to help you in your new walk of faith. Again, welcome to the Family of God, our dear fellow believer in Christ!

Feel free to call us at 302/537-2664 to let us know that you have prayed this prayer, and that you have become a brand new follower of Jesus Christ!
